A quarter of the library's green section is the environmental education collection.

The Soros Foundation's Environmental Education project - in the framework of the Foundation's Public Education Developing Programme - supported the development of a base-collection on environmental education during 1995-1998. With the support of the program the library has been able to purchase 1,800 books, out of which almost 400 are in a foreign language.

As a part of the program book reviews and translations are being prepared of the foreign language works. Photocopies of these translations may be requested and purchased in the library, or acquired as a computer text file free of charge.

The textfile of the collection compiled from the shortened and edited versions of the book reviews is downloadable in compressed Word2 format (399 Books on Environmental Culture).

Four other institutions participated in the Soros Foundation's environmental education base-collection program: the teacher's training college in Nyíregyháza, Szeged and Szombathely, and the Ormánság Foundation in Pécs.
